What do you like best about birthdays?

Posted on May 12th, 2008 by Satya-Seer : Mischievious Biscuit Satya-Seer
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 12, 2008:

Presence, of course.  Yes, I got that right - PRESENCE and not presents.  There is an aliveness in the celebration of any form of presence.  And I have no expections of how and from whom gifts may come, but I delight in the coming together to celebrate life and death, both equally sacred and interconnected.  Birthdays are really no big deal to me, because I celebrate little births and deaths daily.  It is all sacred.  But the presence of other seeming individuals and separate presences buzzing around, making merry, honoring other presences - well, that is a pretty great thing.  Joyously celebrating Self, so to speak.

I get so caught up at restaurants when unknown people have birthday celebrations.  You know, the waiters start singing to someone, and well - I must confess - I just belt it out, "Happy Birthday to you . . . " never really knowing the person, but being witness to the presence of other.  It is a great feeling and joy fills me when this happens.  Of course, my friends dunk under the table sometimes . . .

I've been known to tell people that it was so-an-so's birthday just to celebrate this presence in other for no reason . . . the people who get it continue to celebrate regards of the truth of the exact date of birth.

Now about celebrations - WE DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH OF THEM in my unhumble opinion.  Life itself is reason to celebrate without attaching this or that reason to it.  So, with that, today is the first celebration of "For no apparent reason but that of life itself DAY."  Make merry and HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

yes, celebrating is vital! this is just one of the things the recently retired priest was so good at at our church. he would make everyone feel special, not only on her or his birthday, but every time he sees the person.

Presence is very important for all of us and we may not understand it before the gathering has passed by.  Being present when we meet,  really sharing our own individuality and life,  and receive the others beingness with open arms is maybe a wish-dream.  This is difficult for many of us !  i can often find it difficult , and I regret many times that i didn´t participate more hearty.  It depend on how open and relaxed you are.

But anyhow I agree with you ;  tomorrow may be too late,  and thats why everyday should be worth celebrating…

Life is worth celebrating, and waiting to celebrate just doesn't seem right for me,so we celebrate anyways…besides it's somebody's birthday somewhere :-)
As usual you are marvelous!

Celebrating is part of my daily doings. I wake up to the songs of all the my feathered friends. How can I not celebrate….birthdays, every day…….I still love pressys, any time.

Actually, my little feathered friends, I can hear them now. Must be close to sunrise….yeahhhh, a new day to grow and glow, hug and be hugged, love and laugh, have adventures, learn, and be of service.

A new day, a new beginning, a chance to live, love, enjoy and bring joy….am celebrating…
