My Beloved, poem by Rabia al Basri (Sufi mystic)

Posted on Feb 28th, 2009 by Satya-Seer : Present - See me? Satya-Seer

My Beloved

My peace, O my brothers and sisters, is my solitude,
And my Beloved is with me always,
For His love I can find no substitute,
And His love is the test for me among mortal beings,
Whenever His Beauty I may contemplate,
He is my "mihrab", towards Him is my "qiblah"
If I die of love, before completing satisfaction,
Alas, for my anxiety in the world, alas for my distress,
O Healer (of souls) the heart feeds upon its desire,
The striving after union with Thee has healed my soul,
O my Joy and my Life abidingly,
You were the source of my life and from Thee also came my ecstasy.
I have separated myself from all created beings,
My hope is for union with Thee, for that is the goal of my desire

What could you never give up?

Posted on Mar 1st, 2009 by Satya-Seer : Present - See me? Satya-Seer
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 01, 2009:

The property of the universe is always changing, and often it is out of our seeming control. I guess anything could be given up, but why? And who is giving up the thing? I'm happy just as I AM.

What animals have made a difference in your life?

Posted on Mar 2nd, 2009 by Satya-Seer : Present - See me? Satya-Seer
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 02, 2009:

Cats have made the most difference in my life. They have taught me how to relax into life and leisure while being playful, and cooperation with others to have needs met. Below is a picture of my beloved Chandra Devi (cat-ah-go-go) - I also call her Guidetta-Pancetta. My cats have always been strays who seemed grateful to be taken in and treated like kings and queens. I've got to say here that it is a shame that people throw away animals leaving them in hostile modern environments. All of my animals have been strays with the exception of one cat that clawed me from a cage in a pet store. I think he was saying "get me the hell out of here buddy. I deserve better."

I also play close attention to those animals that appear around me, animal totems some call 'em. The cardinal has been appearing a lot lately, geese, the opossum, and of course whales (via Carla - see her articles about the whales at her Touching Art Website).  See also her articles about the Hope Peace Chamber and its relationship to the whales.

This is Chandra Devi, Guru cat, giving kitty Darshan! Don't you feel her bliss. You may view additional pictures of Diva Devi in my photos.

Where is your name from?

Posted on Mar 4th, 2009 by Satya-Seer : Present - See me? Satya-Seer
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 04, 2009:

Satya-Seer is my chosen GAIA name. It comes from the Sanskrit work Sathya for truth and the English word seer for seer. One of my meditation teachers called me truth seer once so I took this name to always try to see the truth and the real in things.

My birth name is John which is a family name. Many uncles, great uncles, etc. were given this as a part of their name, either first or middle name in each. My mother would tell me that my name meant "gift from God" - until I became a teenager!

Origin of John

Hebrew

Usage of John

English, Biblical

Meaning of John

The name John is an English form of Johannes, which was the Latin form of the Greek name Ioannes, which is itself derived from the Hebrew name Yochanan meaning "Yahweh is gracious".

Here are some of the meanings of the name John from http://www.thinkbabynames.com/.

I'll copy that link information here:

The boy's name John \jo-hn\ is pronounced jahn. It is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "the Lord is gracious". Biblical: the name of the longest-lived of the 12 apostles, who was especially loved by Christ. Also the name of John the Baptist, who baptized Christ in the Jordan river. Dozens of variant forms, given names and surnames, male and female, have been created in almost every language. For a few examples, Jan is a Dutch and Slavic form; Janos is Czech; Joao is Portuguese; and the Johan variants are German and Swiss. Possibly the most popular name in history; kings, popes, saints, heroes, villains, and men of every degree between have borne the name. A contemporary trend seems to be to hyphenate Joh, Jean, Jon, Sean, and Shawn with various other names. Actors John Gielgud, John Barrymore, John Wayne, John Cusack, John Leguizamo, Johnny Depp; American Presidents John F. Kennedy, John Tyler, John Adams, John Quincy Adams; poet John Donne; Beatle John Lennon; composer Johannes Bach; football player John Elway; lawyer Johnnie Cochrane.

John has 85 variant forms: Anno, Ean, Eian, Eion, Euan, Evan, Ewan, Ewen, Gian, Giannes, Gianni, Giannis, Giannos, Giovanni, Hannes, Hanno, Hans, Hanschen, Hansel, Hansl, Iain, Ian, Ioannes, Ioannis, Ivan, Ivann, Iwan, Jack, Jackie, Jacky, Jan, Jancsi, Janek, Janko, Janne, Janos, Jean, Heanno, Jeannot, Jehan, Jenkin, Jenkins, Jens, Jian, Jianni, Joannes, Joao, Jock, Jocko, Johan, Johanan, Johann, Johannes, John-Carlo, John-Michael, Johnn, Johon, Johnie, Johnnie, Johnny, John-Patrick, John-Paul, Jon, Jona, Jonnie, Jovan, Jovanney, Jovanney, Jovanni, Jovonni, Juan, Juanito, Juwan, Sean, Seann, Shane, Shaughn, Shaun, Shawn, Vanek, Vanko, Vanya, Yanni, Yanno and Zane.

For more information, see also related names Baptist, Battista, Chan, Dajon, Eoin, Evian, Gahan, Hovannes, Huon, Ioanis, Janak, Jones, Keon, Sinjin, Yann, Yannis, Yochanan and Yovanny.

Baby names that sound like John are Jonn, Ion, Eon and Jonny.

John is a very popular male first name and a very popular surname (source: 1990 U.S. Census). Displayed below is the baby name popularity trend for the boy's name John. Compare John with related baby names.

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 06, 2009:

I am educated by not schooled per se. I didn't like school much cause I always wanted to draw outside the lines and explore and the modern school system doesn't like that very much.

What was the first thought that crossed your mind this morning?

Posted on Mar 8th, 2009 by Satya-Seer : Present - See me? Satya-Seer
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 08, 2009:

"Is anyone in the bathroom 'cause I've really got to pee bad." Then, this morning, "what time is it?" - since the time changed last night. Sometime after that I'm usually, and was this morning, grateful for life. Those were my thoughts this morning and what I usually think about when I first wake up.

Gertrude Stein - In honor of Women

Posted on Mar 8th, 2009 by Satya-Seer : Present - See me? Satya-Seer

Thanks SAMME for honoring Women this month in his blog Happy International Women's Day and Women's History Month. You are always on top of things.

I just wanted to put a few things here in honor of Gertrude Stein, one of my favorite writers and ex-patriots who lived in Paris, had a salon, and who propogated the modern art movement. She was way before her time. So this blog honors her.

Write a thank you letter to something you take for granted.

Posted on Mar 9th, 2009 by Satya-Seer : Present - See me? Satya-Seer
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 09, 2009:

Thank you to all that I do not see. You play an integral part in this life. I don't always see your part and how we are interconnected, but I know you do "your thang" just the same. Sometimes I get just a glimsp of you and sometimes not, and often I have no clue about how you are connecting to the rest of what is! But I know, and appreciate that you, the unseen stuff and non-stuff, play an important role in this One life. Thank you to that which animates all of this, that which I don't see - call it GOD, MIND, CONSCIOUSNESS, whatever . . . thanks. Thanks to that which holds it all together, but GLUE of the GOO.

What is so terrible about fear?

Posted on Mar 10th, 2009 by Satya-Seer : Present - See me? Satya-Seer
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 10, 2009:

Fear can be a motivator to move out of harms way - healthy fear. Or it can be the things that makes us want to hold onto some crazy idea that we think makes us safer and more comfortable.
If an Elephant is running toward you - get out of the way (is healthy fear).
Everyone else is eating that new fruit, but I've never eaten it because I'll probably die (crazy fear).
Not great examples but you get the picture.
Bottom line: fear motivates us towards a positive or negative outcome - like anything else.
